Thursday, March 8th - Friday, March 9th
Over the next ten years, the Chinese government will invest more than Yuan 100bn (US$15bn) in subsidizing the country's industry and infrastructure for environmentally friendly and alternative fuel vehicles. Around Yuan 60bn will be invested in developing energy-saving technologies, with the remaining funds to be used for the creation of an infrastructure capable of supporting energy saving vehicles in certain cities. The Chinese car industry is maturing and follows other big manufacturers in their investment on electric mobility. The state supports this move by having set an official goal of 500,000 Chinese plug-in hybrids and electric cars produced by the end of 2011.
To facilitate this goal, China launches a nationwide program to install large electric vehicle charging stations. To the end of this year, China Grid will build 75 charging station and 6,000 charging post in 27 provinces. To 2016, 400 electric vehicle charging station will be built; during 2016 and 2020, more than 10,000 charging stations are going to be built. Planned by Sinopec, during the period of 12th Five-year plan, Sinopec will build and improve 275 petrol-evcharging multiple service stations in China. In Beijing, 100 of 580 Sinopec petrol stations will be changed to serve electric vehicles for charging service. In the rest of China, Sinopec plans to invest 8.75 hundred million to build 175 petrol-evcharging multi-service stations. China is on track to lead deployment of this infrastructure in the coming years.

2nd World Congress of Bioenergy
Wednesday, April 25th - Saturday, April 28th
WCBE-2012 will bring together industry leaders, professors, policy makers, investors and researchers to provide unique insights into evolving governmental policies, breakthrough technologies and investment strategies in this growing field. This event will focus on the use of renewable sources of energy as well as on co operations between China and the rest of the world through exhibitions and oral presentations by specialists in the field.
China is currently in a phase of rapid industrialization and integration with the world economy. The rapidly growing economy and changing society of China largely depend upon the availability of energy. Bioenergy development has become a top priority of the government in China, and in January 2006 a renewable energy law was implemented. Strong policy incentives were established to provide favorable conditions for investments in small enterprises and researchers involved in the social and technological transition toward the development of sustainable energy. At an international level, bioenergy has become a dynamic force, with governments, industry, aid-agencies and private investors all interested in the investment opportunities in China due to their large stock of biomass resources from agricultural and forest residues, as well as the vast areas of wasteland that can be used for bioenergy development. By integrating greenhouse gas emissions reduction with the development of sustainable rural energy systems, China can set an example for other biomass rich developing countries as they strive to achieve the combined benefits of social development and environmental protection.

London, UK
Pike Research Director Eric Woods is the Chair on May 21. Eric will be making opening comments at 9:00 a.m. on May 21 and he will lead the following discussion at 9:10 a.m.: Where can social media take the utilities sector? To schedule a meeting at this event, Please Contact Us.
The only Social Media in the Utilities Sector conference in the UK!
“57 million customers worldwide will use social media to engage utilities in 2011, a number that will rise to 624 million customers by the end of 2017” according to Pike Research.
As utility spending on social media increases and more people are going on-line, the utilities industry needs to keep ahead and not lag behind in their social media activities. With the industry usually in the spotlight and with all the media attention the industry gets, industry leaders are realizing that they need to engage with customers/media to improve their image.
As their customers become more tech-savvy, the best way to engage customers is through social media channels.
With other industries taking up the opportunities and challenges of social media, to a large extent the utilities industry is a long way behind. Industry leaders need to stay ahead by embracing social media to stay connected with their customers.
